				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span id="lblBody"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-34" title="CILogo" src="http://blog.childreninc.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/smallCILogo.jpg" alt="CILogo" width="100" height="52" />This past September 21, 2009 was the International Day of Peace was the 21st annual international effort to spread peace throughout the world. The International Day of Peace provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. It was established by a United Nations </span><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-104" title="MELAworldpeace8" src="http://blog.childreninc.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/MELAworldpeace8-300x225.jpg" alt="MELAworldpeace8" width="300" height="225" /><span id="lblBody">resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982.</span></p>
<p>Montessori Early Learning Academy, a Covington preschool that educated students in Montessori classrooms, joined the global event for peace on Monday, Sept 21. Students sang, &#8220;Light a Candle for Peace&#8221; at 11:17 for 5 minutes. The project was designed to pass Beginning in New Zealand and ending in the Hawaiian Islands, the song was passed<br />
around the world from Montessori schools in different time zones to fill an entire day with children’s beautiful voices singing about peace.</p>
<p>Center Director Mandi Johnson explained that &#8220;it&#8217;s important for children to feel part of something and we felt that this was an important project to participate in.&#8221; The song was organized by the American Montessori Society and ended up including about 50,000 Montessori students from around the world.</p>
