Growing Sound is a brand that is dedicated to the success of young children. It is our mission to ensure that children are ready to succeed in school and in life. We develop high quality educational products based in recent early childhood research for use in classrooms and in homes. These products are designed to be fun and easy to use and also encourage positive interaction between adults and children.
Thank you for your interest in Growing Sound. Thank you most of all for your interest in promoting resilience in young children. It is impossible to prevent all trauma, stress or change in the lives of all children. However, the message from resilience research is that protective factors within children can help them bounce back from trauma, stress and change.
Normally, when teachers and other professionals think about either protective factors or risk factors for children, they think about characteristics of the child’s home or neighborhood environments. They often overlook the presence or absence of protective factors within the child herself. The children’s music we have created not only remind teachers and parents of these essential protective factors, but also teach children the behaviors that underlie these factors.
“A growing body of research confirms the relationship between high quality preschool and later success in school and in life … Music engages the brain over a period of time …. the process of listening to music could be a way that the brain sharpens its ability to sustain attention.” — Stanford University School of Medicine, July 2007.
We know that music is a wonderful teaching tool for young children (and probably adults as well). David Kisor gives us children’s music in which the songs are rich with complexity while the important messages remain simple. In Songs of Resilience, there are many different musical styles from Caribbean to 60s rock-and-roll to Hip-Hop. He brought to the studio many musical colleagues so that on one song you might hear a beautiful cello and violin and on another dueling horns. David wants to give us children’s music that adults enjoy too. Songs of Resilience also features two additional vocalists, Spring Starr Pillow, an accomplished adult female vocalist, and Molly McMath, a wonderful experienced child vocalist. Over the past year, these songs have been “tested” in the classrooms of Children, Inc. and we have included songs that emerged as the favorites of our children.
