Andrew came to our school after having recently moved in with foster parents when his parents could no longer care for him. His transition into school was difficult – he did not trust many adults and was angry. He was also falling behind in language, cognitive and fine motor skills. Teachers worked with Andrew’s family to help him build trust in adults and relationships with his classmates. By focusing on his social and emotional development, teachers were able to help Andrew improve his self-control and ability to take initiative. His academic skills soon followed. Andrew is now independent, respectful and self disciplined. He loves coming to school every day and has become a leader in his classroom.
